I guess this is the only tour that starts close to midnight, when most people are already either partying or getting ready to sleep. The resort staff suggested we take the firefly boat tour and since it didn’t involve paddling (the last time we did a firefly tour was in Abatan river where we kayaked for 5km), we decided we will go check out the fireflies in Loboc river towards Loay.
It was an amazing experience, like Christmas in summer, the trees swarmed with fireflies. Some trees were more synchronized, with thousands of fireflies turning on and off at the same time whereas some looked like light waves starting from one side and sweeping to the other end. Some were probably having a disco party as they kept blinking all over.
It was a bit freaky actually, we expected some sort of river monster to come and snap at us, the still black water of the river looked menacing but the guide said it was safe. No one drowned in the river, well, not yet ha ha ha. Okay enough with the morbid thoughts.
They can arrange to pick you up from the main port near the bridge fronting the church or where the buffet river tour starts, but in our case, they picked us up right in the river front of our resort in Stephanie Grace. Talk about convenient 🙂
It was a magical experience, if not slightly creepy, but it was great to see nature’s version of disco lights in action 🙂
